The Washington Capitals defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 6-0 Friday, extending their mondo win streak to eight games. A big reason for that has been Braden Holtby.

With his 22-save performance against the Blackhawks, the Holtbeast recorded his sixth shutout of the season. He now leads the NHL in the category.

Including tonight, Holtby has tallied five shutouts in his last 14 games and three in his last five. The teams he’s blanked haven’t been slouches either: the Blackhawks, Senators, Blue Jackets, Lightning, and Canucks. Holtby’s shutout against the Blue Jackets ended Columbus’s winning streak at 16 games – the second longest in NHL history.

Since being pulled against the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 3rd, Holtby is 5-0-0 with a .978 save %, a .60 GAA, hasn’t allowed a goal at even strength and has racked up 3 shut outs.

Good luck, rest of the NHL. Last year’s Vezina Trophy-winner is back in the zone and there’s no way to score against him.
